Just received my new Maggie .7s.
They sound great, right out of the box!
If the break-in process does not change the sound, it is good enough. The top end is sweet (not bright), there is an overall fullness (not lean) and they are extremely coherent. Don't have to wait hundreds of hours to enjoy my music.
The .7s are classic Maggie - open and spacious soundstage, eerily real midrange, and musical.
I have owned 1.7, 1.6, MG12, MMG and Mini System over the past 20 years.
Of the previously owned Maggies, the 1.6s were my most favorite and the 1.7s my least favorite. The top end was a bit bright and the overall sound of the 1.7s was too dry for my listening preference.
The MMGs were laid back and easy listening, very musical and my favorite for the money.
The MG12s were in between the laid back MMGs and the more detailed 1.6s, but I never felt they were worth the difference in price.
The .7s sound similar to the 1.6s. What they lack is soundstage size and bass, is more than compensated with their superior coherency.
The .7s are definitely worth the additional cost compared with the MMGs, and for my listening preferences, sound better than the 1.7s.
Compared with MMGs, the .7s are noticeably more extended at both ends, present a larger soundstage, significantly improve the vertical listening positions, produce deeper bass, and offer more clarity and openness around instruments.
My system is located in lively room with mostly hard surfaces. The speakers (standard feet) are placed almost 3 feet from the wall behind with the tweeters positioned outside. No brightness and no need for the tweeter attenuators.
The .7s portray a wonderful balance of detail, and clarity, with fullness and warmth. On some music the Rel T-2 sub woofer is a nice addition and on some music not necessary.
I can't say enough about these new Maggies, and they are not even broken-in!
The .7s are driven by a Primaluna Dialogue Premium HP integrated amp with EL-34 tubes. It has more than enough power. The bass is not as tight as with my Ayre AX7e, but the midrange is more present and the overall sound draws me in on an emotional level. The eternal tubes vs solid state comparison.
I hope you find this review helpful.

I'm curious if there is an audible difference between the stands Magnepan uses. Height and angle are both different for sure.
I did not hear the .7s with the optional base.
When using Sound Anchor stands with my MMGs they raised the panels off the floor a few inches and eliminated the angle placing them straight up.
The upright position tightened the bass which caused the speakers to sound a tad leaner but with cleaner details.
For me, I preferred the Sound Anchors stand position with the subwoofer more than without the subwoofer. The sub compensated for the leaner bass and built on the added clarity.
Since the optional .7 stands reposition the panels in a position similar to the Sound Anchors, I would expect similar results.
Congrats! Thanks for your review. : )
Very exciting they have a new model and we're getting reviews. I'd love to hear a pair one day...Nice review.
Your experience with all those models is really helpful.
Pictures would be nice too!
