I converted my Xes to Monitor 4s back in '79. The panels are virtually indestructible.

Those are so so nice and cool looking!
What does they sound like?
I know a person here in Sweden that is what You could call a collector and rescuer of old HiFi.
He has a pair of those Monitor's that I could buy. But as one speaker amp is not working properly, I am not sure that there are parts for it to fix it up.

The sound is amazing. I still find it hard to believe that such sound comes from a design and a speaker that is over 30 years old. Since there is approximately 1 square meter of radiating surface per frame, they make a very, very big sound. Close to concert level performance. One of the most impressive aspects of them to me is their absolutely startling ability to reproduce dynamics and deep taught bass. They do have some limitations to be aware of though. Because they are a dipole, placement distance from rear wall is rather important, but the trade off is that they are reasonably immune from problems arising from early reflections. Because the panels, in effect, act as storage battery, they will not perform at their best until the panels are fully charged and stabilized. This usually represents @ 35 to 45 minutes of playing time, and the practical implication of this limitation means that you just do not play them at top volume until they charge up fully. It does no damage to play them overly loudly before they are fully charaged, it's just not what I would call a satisfying listening experience.
Repair parts for the servo amps are available. If you are really interested you may want to contact Michael Savuto at AnalogueAssociatesLLC@Gmail.com. Mike's a great guy and more than willing to help - and the fact that he's VERY passionate about Acoustats doesn't hurt either.
I would love to get some more info/thoughts and pictures on them if You got any.
Please e-mail me at jerker.lindborg with gmail dott com.
I "only" have a service and user manual for them (Monitor 4).
Cheers

Man, that's a nice looking system. The last Acoustats I heard were 2+2s. That was ages ago.

I modified my Model X's to mimic the height of the monitor series with adjustable angles. My bases still need finishing.
Thank you. Very kind of you to say so. I'm a recent convert to Acoustat and am completely smitten with them. Was married to a Counterpoint/Vandersteen combo for over 20 years. This past summer I had my mid-life crisis and fell in love with another ... speaker that is and am loving it.
