you probably hear the mylar slap on your best recordings, correct?
With a good DAC, lotsa info floating around that mylar at the same time looking for a way out. Too much gets on one wire and slap. Happens with the larger maggies also, they just have more room for more info.

SPOT ON. Exactly. Especially on those xrcd recordings. Probably nothing i can do about that except turn down the already not too loud volume huh? Do share any remedies.

WF,
It might be digital clipping, and you are right there is nothing you can do.
Some cds even the audiophile ones just clip. How else can you account for slap at LOW volumes??
Anyhow here is THREAD that covers the idea of digital clipping
No one here remembers the bending of our minds
maggie slap instead of slam. I run stereo subs with my 1.6's, 1.6's are crossed over @80Hz, 6db, subs are at 40Hz, 6db. subs sit just inside the 1.6's on the same plane, not buried in the corners.
On my system, this = no slap, and enough slam to have some left over.
Should put an ad on audiogon, excess "maggie slam" for sale, see what responses I get.
BTW, if you want to really have some fun, go down to your local audio store, and look at the out of sight priced power cords, you know the ones, 2-3 grand for a 4' power cord, see if your dealer has a try it before you buy it, and if so, ask for one thats been burnt in for a while.
Take it home and plug it into your DAC. then sit down and hold on. I did this with my CDP and was amazed at the difference it made. Just make sure to take it back 2 days before you are suppose to so you dont get charged for it.
