and measure the step-up ratios on my own M1 transformers. The scuttlebutt several years ago was that the ratios of the SL audio transformers were 1:100 or up to 1:150, but no one ever seemed to know definitively. Based on the lack of response to my question, that still seems to be the case. Plitron makes a toroidal audio transformer for ESL use that is available at a 1:75 step-up. Surely one could commission the construction of something with a bit more voltage gain potential. (Or so I say without knowing a thing about the problems associated with transformer design.) Tubevibb says that he can drive his A3s with only the treble transformer and he likes the result, so I think it's not a crazy idea. If one uses a toroid, the trick is to get good bass response. It might be easier to do with a conventional EI transformer design.

Regarding the many wires coming out from each segment, it would be something that Roy would know. Have not seen or heard from him at SLOG anymore.

  Those are his white A3s in the photo posted by Tubevibb. He completely fabricated the frames and the backplate box out of steel. An amazing guy, but he's dropped off the internet, as far as I know. Since I too have left SLOG, I am making an assumption that he does not post there any more. I am going to start up a dialogue with a transformer maker re making a full-range audio transformer for SLs.

    You may wont give a try, you trun the Xfourmer around, an then if that dose not work for you, it well work good for the hearters for a Circlotron, you can wire most for 120 or 240
    but i well say just try the stock hi,xfourners you well be Shocket, it sounds better to {me} than the fu** seup the West went with. the only diff. between you an i, is am the only one that OWN,s my SL,s.You act like Mr. West my still own youres, an thats cool you may wont to sale, or what ever, i am not in to that, ALL i well have is the Best i can get out of all my OTL, ESL,an when i get the Best i can, NEVER had a prob. Saleing any thing!
