In my effort to add to this board I thought I would comment on recordings from time to time. Here goes.........This is a neat recording that came out in the 90's. DC's DJ Spooky is a turntablist that also plays instruments from time to time as well. I saw him live in 2003 with Mike Clarke (HH Headhunters) on drums. Cool show. Besides spinning two tables he also played a stand up bass and controlled a video screen with neat images. "Dead Dreamer" is my favorite of his work. It is trippy, hypnotic and dark and mostly down tempo. Unlike recent works it is just him spinning and some added synth. He really does a nice production and the stereo image is huge. Some of the sampled material is lacking in fidelity but that's expected. One of the samples is Fats Waller playing organ from the Eraserhead soundtrack. So fidelitywise it is lacking in spots to be sure but the material and production made me quickly forget that. He often generates the tracks in layers adding them one at a time. There are some cool grooves on this album. I reccomend anyone who enjoys the trippy, hypnotic and industrial side of things to give this a try.

Good posts-I got some good tips-thanks to everyone who responded.
Good choice. I really like Optometry too, more jazzy and not nearly as edgy as Dreamer, but still good. When I grabbed that one, the shop had two copies, one placed in the electronic section and the other in jazz. Always wante to hear Dubtrometry, but never have gotten around to it. Any idea how that one is?I really like that one. In a similar vein and time frame, have you listened to WE? If you like Songs of a dead Dreamer, I'd expect this one to go over with ya too. You could also have a listen to Byzar gaiatronyk vs the cheap robots. I think they're all on Asphodel.

that Banzai Republic CD mentioned below, the latest Air, new Interpol and finally Everything but the Girl, - Back to Mine. Also had to get the new Music for Airports from Holland by eno.
I also got this thing Raintem or something, - that sounds pretty similar to what you're talking about, - industrial, strange-noise-driven, experimental, downtempo.
