I am over 40 now so I don't like a whole lot of rap type stuff anymore. Back in the 80's I loved Public Enemy, Ice T, NWA, EPMD, LL Cool J,Cool Moe Dee, Eric B and Rakim etc, etc...
But man I have been groovin on this Beastie Boys "The Mix-Up" CD. That is some really awesome stuff to my ears anyway...You just listen mostly to rap there rocky? Recommend me a favorite CD of yours that's NOT rap...
Follow Ups:
I can't stand the stuff ! Except when its funny or really groovy. This is rare with rap as they all take themselves so seriously.
Favourite CD / record ? That's really tough. I like anything , well, you know - good. Popwise at the moment I am learning to love a label called Ninjatune - this sounds kinda rappy but in fact you are as likely to find Nils Peter Moelvaar (Jazz) or other respected guys on their records.
best regards,
rr
Hilarious!~!
I'm with you. When Run DMC saved the lives of Aerosmith with "Walk this Way." Or, some of the talk over that was done by SKA folks or Lynton Kwesi Johnson, or some of Joe Strummer's "raps" with the Clash.
And later, some of the talk-over-rap in Downtempo/Lounge like Kruder & Dorfmeister, or Michael Franti on Six Degrees "Recline."
Beasty Boys were pretty darn funny, and incredibly talented: IMO, of course...
I know that you think that you know what I said, but do you realize that what I said was not what I meant?
... the extended version almost made me wet myself when I first heard it, many, MANY yeas ago. Must look into these guys again some day.
Cheers
the song is not wack at all but cooking so keep it up you deserve to be called a hip pop artist.kat-logo a rapper from my neighbourhood vryjozi.hey hey
but I'm hardly an authority on them....
We used to rehearse a couple of times in the Toni, tone, tony rehearsal space sometimes and they'd be around: (man were there some hottie hangers on for those guys)....
"Lettuce into the Club" is a riot too...
I know that you think that you know what I said, but do you realize that what I said was not what I meant?
thinking of may have been "Doowutchyalike", which is on their first studio album. May just have to pick it up one day. Difficult to go back when there is so much ahead tho... has to be special.
Cheers
If i'm not mistaken, that song was featured in the Dan Aykroyd movie; "Nothing but Trouble" where Aykroyd is a judge trapping city people in a small town...

This Beastie Boys CD has no lyrics. It's all instrumental. It's killer man. You should check it out....not rap sounding AT ALL. It's kind of funk/jazz/techno fusion or something...well recorded to boot.
Hmm - I confess I don't know that one at all. It sounds unlike any Beastie album I have ever heard ! I'll go and see if Mr Papiernougat knows it. He's a bit of a Beastie expert.
rocky, did speak to your friend? Have you checked out the album yet?
That discussion is scheduled for this morning !
Cool. Let me know something.
No answer yet. Mr P is in Italy.
He had it on CD. I was afraid of that. Mr P is the worst destroyer of CD's that the world has ever known. He possesses CD's (when he can find them) that you could use to prove light behaves like a wave in an interferometry experiment. Thus, I was not able to listen.
His music is now backed up onto his computer who's external drive recently failed - he is starting over with his music collection. Poor Mr P.
