I was in the DIY store looking for a small halogen bulb when this groovy song comes over the tannoy - It was like a sort of laid back dub bassline with what sounded like a certain well known singer crooning sweetly -
So I went home with my bulb and googled the lyrics I thought I heard. Guess what - The song is called 'The Hush', the group is Texas and I hate the rest of the album. But I really like that track ! Oh, and the girl is mighty fine lying on the beach is a wet t shirt & sand all over the place.

Two that come quickly to mind...
The first is a story not unlike yours, I was in a record store (Records on Wheels in Winnipeg, Manitoba) around 1980, heard the song "Tyler" from UB40s 1st album - Signing Off, being played and bought the album immediately - Luckily it is a very good album that I occassionally listen to to this day.
Around the same time, bought Wreckless Eric's "The Whole Wide World" for the title track. Lost the album in one of my many moves and never found it again. Still love that song though.
Bought? No.
Downloaded? Many times :)
Can be expensive but some songs are just special. That's one nice thing about buying used records - getting them cheap enough that it doesn't matter. I've always had something of a get it now or be sorry forever attitude when it comes to music that stokes me.
One that's getting to me now is Morrissey's - That's How People Grow Up as featured on the Carson Daley show. Was flipping through the channels and came across it and Tivo'd it. It's on a greatest hits that I have my doubts about the rest of.

I Bought Scarlett Johansson's album just for her cover tof tom wait's fallin down but I like the whole album and all of the songs except one is a waits cover. It was recorded in a Cajun shack studio with actual cajun bands and was produced by David Sitek so it sounds great.
