You don't need to spend a ton, a good used set of SR-5 will do.
They went out of production nearly 50 years ago or something like that but they're better than the Senn 600 for sure.
Headphones are essential here, my wife likes to sleep in on her days off and I can't use speakers. Or she's working from home and I can't use the speakers.
Or I'm listening to Eric Dolphy and can't use the speakers. Heh.
I wouldn't be without them, but I won't use anything but Stax (although I'm considering the Nectar HiveX). I've used Sennheisers and they're excellent but they're not as good as Stax.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
Follow Ups:
Always wanted to but always felt they were more expensive than I wanted to spend.
Plus since they were still just two transducers sitting on one's ears, I always assumed they would have the same limitations that my dynamic phones had in terms of lack of "air" and sense of space.
And at this point in my retirement my big spending days are pretty much over.

...probably not more than you'd spend for the Senn HD-650.
Once you go Stax, you'll never go bax.

I do remember researching years ago, and all the STAX seemed to be more than a grand.
Too late now anyway I guess.
