Today Drop and Sennheiser announced an $1100 'HD8XX' headphone. It's an HD800S with a couple of minor tweaks.
Does not come with an xlr cable like the one that comes with the HD800 and HD800S.
Here's the killer... no service, ever, from Sennheiser. And no 'out of warranty' service, ever, from Drop. Yup, you buy your $1100 headphone and 25 months later need a minor repair and you can go pound sand.
Drop has lost me as a customer. FOREVER. I don't trust these clowns as far as I can throw them.

Follow Ups:
....may be that Sennheiser is being sold/was sold, so no support on old(er) stock?
Mass Drop (now just Drop) has been selling a special version of the HD650, the MassDrop HD6XX, for at least five years under the same terms.
Two year warranty supported by MassDrop (mostly by replacement) with no warranty or out of warranty support from Sennheiser.
Big problem? Not much as MassDrop has sold well over 100,000 of the HD6XX.

I'd take a risk on $200. $1100? Not a chance in the world.

The point was that the warranty is the same.
One guy's $200 is the next guy's $1,000, but the Senn HD800 series does not excite me.

They negotiated a customer relationship that relieved them of all warranty responsibility in exchange for stripped-down product with favourable pricing. I wouldn't deal with Drop either, but I haven't really seen anything special about their pricing, so I would just buy the mainstream Sennheiser product.
is such a good deal they have sold over 120,000 of them.
And with a 2 year warranty (mostly honored by free exchange).
If I didn't already have a 10+ year old HD600 (which has never had a problem), I'd grab one at that price.
