you have to have the right gear, they terminate in a six-prong plug.
They're not as comfortable as Sennheisers either.
I've got the 600 Senns, they sound really really good and they're comfortable as hell. I can't speak for the rest of the Sennheiser line.
They used to make a cheaper version of the 600, it was the 585 or something. Used the same ear pads. They were a lot less expensive than the 600s.
You could also try Head-Fi, lurk around the forum, find what feels good, what inflicts pain.
My first set of Stax hurt like a bitch, but I loved the sound so much it didn't matter.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
Follow Ups:
I just meant that I knew about the Stax phones from our previous conversations NOT that I was interested in them... probably just the Sennheiser , Marshall or possibly Master & Dynamics... I'll check out that website you mentioned.
Didn't think you wanted my Stax, but didn't know if you knew that you needed an energizer or amp, etc.
The massdrop HD-6xx looks like a smokin' deal.

for about $200.Since introduced as one of Mass Drop's first private label products a couple years ago, they have sold over 100,000 of them!
Made for Mass Drop, it's more HD-650 than HD-600 (someplace in between?) and at $220, it is a steal. Same comfort as the HD600 with a bit better sound of the HD-650 at a price lower that what I paid for my HD-600 nearly two decades ago!

I paid $240 for mine from Audio Advisor way back in 2003.
