Thanks man. I was worried about trading in my purest card but yep things sound better with that in place.
On the apex, I was ready to buy it as they say its better than the BBE but I stopped because of the separate level controls for each channels. How would I EVER get each channel the same?? Isnt that a must for headphone listening?
Will look into the dynamic range extender. But isnt it too late if the recording is already compressed??

Dynamic expanders can work wonders, if you use them sparingly. I have never used it with headphones, but with speakers they can bring back life into overcompressed music. They simply expand the dynamic ratio between quieter and louder passages of the music. As they don't work predectively, you have to dial in the settings, that sound best to you, which takes some experimentation. But it can be worthwhile.
