Thanks for the input. Your information on the factory Sennheiser cables is especially helpful. I have been looking at aftermarket cables for quite a while and am still quite hesitant to select one.
I have the older HD800 model that comes with only one cable and it not a balanced cable. It has a TRS phono plug only.

One of the great things about Sennheiser is that their headphones' modular construction means that virtually all parts are replaceable and that various parts from within a type series are interchangeable. So, for example, my HD600 from the 1990s is fitted with the balanced cable for the later HD650 and that cable was purchased in 2018. So I have little doubt that replacement cables for the current HD800 and even the HD800S will fit your pair.

I know. :) I was responding to your suggestion to get a 2 phono jack to 4 pin female XLR adapter made. :)
If you don't mind ordering from the UK the linked company are superb. They mainly supply studios or live tours but are happy to deal with the general public. The cost of my own adaptor for balanced use that they custom made was (if I remember correctly) the equivalent of around $20-$25. It will be a small package so I don't think adding shipping will be too much.
email them with your needs. You will probably need to give them the pin or tip and ring in and out count. If you need any help on this let me know.
Best Wishes

I bought a Draug 3 cable form Trevor, at Norne audeio had the Draug 2 for a couple of years previously and found great value in both of them. The cable's are more flexable and do not kink. Many options as to construction and length.
