i can understand the benefits of issuing "remastered" CDs from analog recordings - benefits of latest technology 96/24 mastering etc. etc.what's the pros/cons of "remastering" recordings originally recorded on low-res digital?
i've seen quite a few of these CDs and even compared a few - they do sound more dynamic, more extended frequencies, and louder - often, mostly louder. are these just the result of some "tinkering" and equalization or are there any real benefits?
Follow Ups:
you can keep the 24 bit (or even 32 bit fp these days) resolution until the final mastering step where the result is converted back into 16 bit 44.1 kHz.With the early 16 bit processing there where rounding errors cumulating in each step of the proces.

I'm curious about the titles/genre of these remastered DDDs. As far as I know, this is seldom (if ever) done with classical DDD recordings.
