Then the ESS Sabre DAC chip is what you should get.
Listening pleasure may take you in a differing direction, but audio has always that way going back to von Recklinghausen who stated:
"If it measures good and sounds bad, -- it is bad. If it sounds good and measures bad, -- you've measured the wrong thing."

The D50 has a choice of rolloff filters so you can tune it to your own taste
and I can barely tell the difference. I THINK I prefer the slow roll off filter but that could be because I heard Charley Hansen say he preferred that filter in his DACs.
Oh, I also have a $200 SMSL M8? DAC around here someplace and it has user selectable filters.
It sounds AWFUL on all settings. :-(

I have an SMSL SU-8
It took it hundreds of hours before sounding really good. It did sound really awful for a while. Pinched, metallic, no bass. Really awful. If your M8 is similarly built... I would try to give him some more time.
I now LOVE my SU-8!
I compared the M8 with the Schiit Bifrost Multibit -- there was no comparison, the latter crushed the former.
The Topping D50 is another matter altogether.
I love the music of Dmitri Shostakovich ...![]()
The newest D70 uses AKM chips
OTOH, the Border Patrol DAC measures AWFUL (according to some who have measured it) yet many swear by its performance in listening tests. I've no first hand experience with it but still...
I am sure both of my DACs would be considered substandard measurement-wise against even a modest ESS Sabre implementation, but that matters not at all to me.
The chances of reading a credible review of a $200 Chinese DAC against the 'big boys' is pretty remote. Internet chat board 'experts', they are all over the internet doing 'measurements' and reviews.
You are welcome to them.
At $200? Buy it, try it and report back.
