It sounds like an output transistor may be failing.
Follow Ups:
Open the cover (Unplugged!!) and be sure the screws that hold down the transistors are snug. I've fixed more damned equipment this way than I can remember. If screws are not snug - the heat sinks cannot carry the heat away - and transistors go, quite quickly, into overload
