I'm thinking of making the move to a tube pre and need help identifying what used gear would be a good start. I've had the Sonic Frontiers SFL 1 suggested but would like to know what the inmates think.I'm currently using a Audio Research SP7 (SS) with a Rotel CD, Theta DAC, Bryston amp and PSB Bronze speakers.
What Should I be looking at and what improvement can I expect?

nice clarity and tonal vividness, DYNAMICS, better imaging and soundstaging. tubes in front of the ss amp gives the best of both worlds.the line stage of arc tubed preamps are wonderful, but spring for a vinyl player for a new adventure.
