Have you tried unplugging the CJ preamp for a minute and then plugging it back in?

D'oh!!! Unplugging did the trick!
Normally that would be the first thing I would try with a piece of computer hardware. It's just not something that crossed my mind when dealing with "analog" hardware. But of course, I said it myself... "microprocessor controlled relays".
In the words of Eric Idle, "What a silly bunt!"
Thanks everyone for the assistance... you rock!
I had a CJ Premier 17LS Series I and currently have a CJ CA200 control amp, and my one complaint is that the gain is too high. Even at 01 or 00, it can be too loud in a smallish room at night.
So, I suppose you were experiencing an UNUSUALLY high gain, even for CJ?

Don't you just love it when something simple "and free" solves the problem.
I'm a big CJ preamp fan, enjoy yours.
Cures all! Good news.
