what an eye opener

Just for kicks I tried and Ortofon 2M Black MM cartridge with a Lounge phono preamp while I am waiting for my Audio Technica 746 cartridge to arrive. I wanted to try another shot at using a MM cartridge. Unless the 746 sounds worlds better, it is going to be returned. The Ortofon opened my ears and my eyes. It is truly one of the best cartridges I heard and with this phono preamp, to my ears it's a "killer".
I am at some point in the near future, going to try an Audio Technica 1000. According to a friend John Ellison it should sound fabulous. I guess by the specs. Can't wait to try it! But for now the little investment really turned my thoughts around about MM cartridges and price. I guess with the right adjoining equipment you can make something out of very little investment.
Right now my investment with the preamp and cartridge is well under $500 and I have no need to spend more but I know I will. The Ortofon 1000 alone is $1000 or so but it will have to blow me away for me to keep it.
I am at present for a MC using the top of the line Hana SL and it is a super sounding sounding cartridge(different table, I have 9) but the 2M Black is right there with it. In my opinion and my 72 year old ears, which I still think works just fine.
Just thought I'd share!
