I started on these, in a simpler version of R-C, with my midfi NAD setup and Energy XL speakers. They worked well and were audible.

Through several iterations with much better speakers and lots of other vibe, acoustic and AC/RFI controls, they still sound better. My receiver is still the NAD.

So I think you should not be shy and go for it. See my reply to the posts of last week on this issue concerning an easy way to step up to the full Monty versions, if you want to check this out more easily and cheaply.
