I like the Koss very much. What struck me right away was the lack of bass response when compared to the STAX. It's just not there. What is there is somewhat greater treble resolution & articulation. However, that absence of bass that undergirds so much music, especially rock, is quite noticeable. STAX don't thump, but it's authentic. I miss it on the Koss.

Something else I like about the Koss is their physical weight. They weigh almost nothing on your head compared to the STAX. The extension cord provided is a few feet too short, necessitating a STAX extension. That's another $100.

All and all, an experiment worth $500. I'll keep them for now. If I get tired of them, they'll go up on the AA Trader.
