Reverting to single layer readout of SACD discs, over time ?

It was the one of common complaints about several brands of SACD players back in the day.
Especially with Sony players, IIRC. I owned two Sony SACD players, both of them screwed eventually up, became unable to read multi-layer SACD discs.
