I remember being a kid and watching TV without cable. Very rarely was the signal crystal clear, and some of the channels had so much "snow" you could hardly see the picture.Somehow, over time I got used to it and it didnt bother me anymore. I could watch snowy TV shows and enjoy every second.
But then cable came and I became accustomed to crystal clear TV. Now heres where it get weird. After I got spoiled by cable, going back to a bad picture was not enjoyable.
I have a feeling many of us vinyl folks have become used to "snow" in our music and it just doesn't bother us. We've become used to it and our mind blocks it out. Who knows, maybe this noisy background actually creates a "white noise" that is a better background to lay music on. I'm not really sure.
I do like the quiet sound of CD's though...Quiet passages in classical music can be tough with vinyl. The snow can get REAL deep when the symphony dies down.
