I knew I was going to listen to records last night. I got out of class too late to go downtown to The Beat (they close at 9). So I went to Dimple on Arden to see if they still had records. Most of they're stores have dumped vinyl. Luckily they still had some but a much reduced inventory. There wasn't alot to choose from.I picked up a used copy of Paul Simon One Trick Pony that sounds suprisingly good.
I picked up American hard core the history of punk rock (why I don't know). There's 26 short songs crammed onto one record. The sound is not good. The music isn't that good either.
Bruce Springsteen The Seeger Sessions. It's ok. The first listen was fair sound quality. I don't know about the musicians he used for this. I wasn't real impressed.
Iron Maiden A Matter of life and Death. I used to like these guys when I was younger so what the heck. I bought it. This is a really nice package. Two records with picture discs. One side of each disc has a nice pic of the band (Bummer, rockers get old too). The other sides have the front and rear of the cover. The cover art is the usual walking dead type stuff. It's pretty cool if you like that. The quality of the package is top notch and worth collecting. The sound is good but the music sounds a bit old hat I'm afraid. I didn't make it all the way through. I passed on Green Day American Idiot for this. Not sure if it was a good decision.
David Gilmore On An Island. I was suprised. I don't usually like Gilmore's solo stuff. Even when he called it Pink Floyd. This album is a treat though. This album is made in Holland. The cover is very nice. There a sureal pic of him and his wife (I assume) in the gatefold. It also come with a nice poster of Gilmore. The sound quality is very good. I enjoyed listeing to it all the way through. The highlight being song two on side two "Then I Clos My Eyes". This entire song sounds like a segway between "This Heaven" and "Smile". There are some tripy sound effects. Really creative I thought. Then Smile is a real whimsicle and fun song. Recomended!
Introducing Joss Stone. I wasn't going to buy this either. I liked her forst album Soul Sessions alot. But I hated her second album. I read a review that the album was pretentious or something to that effect. Also that she was trying to sound too modern. I was pleasantly suprised. This album rocks. It is a modern soul funky thing and I like it. Really all the songs were good. I can't remember anything that stood out over the rest. It was just good all the way through. The sound was really impressive also. The midrange is wide and detailed. This album also has alot of bass and really pushes the 17D3 to it's limit in a good way.
The end.
