I like the LED version too. I leave the red light on while spinning, and use the white light for stylus cleaning and LP flipping.
It may not be as bright as the halogen version, but the bulbs should last indefinitely and they give off no appreciable heat. A friend of mine also had trouble with some dimmer noise from the standard Littlite.
I shopped around on-line and found the LED Littlite for $75 a few years ago, so it doesn't necessarily have to cost twice as much as the halogen light.
