The Allman Bros set is in the honorable mentions. And what, no Joni's Miles of Aisles,no Mothers' Roxy & Elsewhere...

If one don't want no overdubs in the list, the Mothers' "Fillmore East June 1971" or "Just Another Band From L.A." both capture perfectly what this specific line-up was about on stage.

I also miss in there "Genesis Live" in all the semi-professional-where's-that-head-prop-screetching-bizarro glory of one of the first incarnations of the band (with Hacket and Gabriel). Although here (in '72) they are still very far from the slickness of future rock shows, the sound on the original George Peckham mastered LP is terrific! Plus the recording captures well the cult atmosphere with the virile art-house cheers that greet the song presentations. Love it!

OT, James Taylor's double CD set is also one of the very best live albums I have ever heard (set list, presentation banter, band performance, sound, etc.).

For those same criteria, Jethro Tull's Bursting Out (1978) is tops also!
