Howzit. I dont remember manual for Garrard 401 mentioning using any grease. Just give a light tap on the spindle while pulling up on the platter to remove it. Maybe lubricating the taper affects the speed stability or something. Dont know about other TT. Interesting to hear if others do on their garrards.Hope this helped some. Have a good one.
