Interesting quote from the liner notes

"(Nat) Hentoff approached Mingus (for these recordings) near the end of the band's ten month tenure at that club. While Dannie Richmond remained the perennial motor, Dolphy and Curson were about to quit. Aside from rigorous rehearsals and being humiliatingly dressed down on stage, they felt betrayed on several counts. Ted says, 'Mingus started withholding from our salaries. He promised to make it a co-operative band, but it never was. He also promised to play our songs and to credit us for what we contributed to the group, but he didn't. The band broke up all at the same time. We decided not to do the Candid dates, but he really pressured us. And he said that after the record, we could quit.'"

I happen to find that curious since if these musicians were in such a bad vibe with Mingus (whose fame of being a stubborn sumbitch is almost as famous as his bass playing)... one can just wonder how those sessions sound like. Or may it be true that pissed-off musicians can go and jam with more fervor, soul and intensity than ever letting all hang out? Curious thoughts, anyway.

And to keep on topic... almost $500 for this set, damn, what are ebayers smoking these days?
