I listen to headphones almost every night. I own two inexpensive pairs, Grado SR-60 and Sennheiser PX-100. The Grado pair sits unused and the Sennheiser pair goes with me while I travel. I like the Grados better than the Sennheisers, but the Sennheiser is one of the folding pairs of phones hence they win by default.I have owned several pairs of decent phones over the years including the Koss 4AAs. I was spoiled one birthday with a pair of Stax Lambda Pros years ago and I have been listening to them ever since.
I have compared them to a lot of phones (including the HD 600) and I still prefer the Stax. I'm sure there's probably better phones than the Lambda's by now but when you reach a certain point its an absurd argument.
If you're going to spend any appreciable amount of money on phones do yourself a favor and check out some estats. Stax has great products. In all the years I have owned them I have replaced the earpads only once and thats it. They were'nt cheap though.
