I find ex liquor bottle boxes to be the high end of cardboard boxes, if you can find them.

In the past I tried decorative scarves , but they were kind of wispy to control, causing some concern,

Switched to a heavier cowboy style neckerchief of a suitable size and am now unconcerned about snags and it goes out of the way easily when not needed. Plus it will never require dusting or have any of the static electricity or other issues that accompany plastics.

I happened across a design with a circular center motif that works well with the round /square design of my table.
