Have you ever tried with much larger value resistor? I found in my friends system (with Rohmann /Ortofon MC cartridge) much better sounding, but he has very low noise preamp. Now he is using 47kOhms Caddock MK-132 resistor. Don't use Holco if you don't want bright sound! If you need a little bit open sound than try Shinkoh. Still, my favorite MC loading is through transformer. Don't buy expensive MCs if you can't afford good MC transformer - rather go MM (Shure!).
