Yes, polyester batting can be used. What is called Hi-Loft type should do the job, and it should be compressed about the same as the fiberglass.Uncompressed building grade fiberglass is about 0.5 lbs per cubic foot density. The Hi-Loft polyester batting runs about the same. We have 3/4" thickness available here, so to be equivalent to the 6" fiberglass I call for in my recipe, you would need to use 8 layers of the batting, and compress it just as much as the fiberglass is. Don't forget to place layer on the outside, to take care of the wire fence rattles, etc. so you would actually need 9 layers total.
