Re: Amp Bias Question

Hi Russ57,Have you been to the TNT website? Here an article called "Put a Tiger in your Amp"can be found. Here they describe fully how to measure your bias current.Basicaly, put your test meter on the emitter resistors and measure the Voltage. The resistors are the biggest there near the transistors and probably got a value of .22 ohms (0.22).The voltage could read 600mv.
600/.22=272mA a bit high so turn the bias down.I use about 200ma for my bias but at this level my heatsinks have been expanded for extra cooling.Increasing bias will heat up the transistors so provide some more cooling if you've got room. Also unplug speakers when bias is set and check for any D.C voltage on your speaker outputs. This is the offset voltage, pure D.C and therefore bad.Make sure its under 1 Volt.Read the article at TNT Audio(Google search)your amp will wake up.Goodluck and happy listening.
