Impressions on new Dedicated AC Lines

I got a pretty deluxe dedicated AC line setup earlier this week and wanted to share my impressions. Having a good friend who's an audiophile and professional electrician made the project pretty easy from my standpoint. I bought all the parts and he installed it all.

What we did was install a subpanel right behind my system. From the mains box in my garage we ran 4 guage three conductor wire (capable of carrying 80amps) about 50 feet into my room, down the wall and installed a metal subpanel. From here we brought out 4 20amp circuits down to 4 dual AC outlets. For these shorter runs we just used aluminum clad 10 guage down into some copper plated Furutech outlets (from Chris VH). We did the 4 gauge instead of running a bunch of different runs of the 10 gauge stuff.

Right off the bat the detail was incredible and the soundstage was huge. For the first two days I tried all my gear w/o any power conditioning and the sound was a little hot and harsh. I added back in my power condiitioner (Promethean Powerflo) for my front end stuff and this helped settle down the sound. Last night was the forth night of listening and it's settling in quite nicely. My analog rig has a tremendous sense of ease and the soundstage has definitely enlarged. Bass is a little more effortless as well. Detail is the big improvement. It was like a veil I didn't know existing was lifted.

I still think with all the new cabling, wire and outlets it'll continue to settle in probably for weeks to come. My buget went over my initial estimates (around $500), but I'm quite happy with the results. As my buddy said after we were done, "The 4 gauge was probably overkill, but what the hell.....".
