a bad solder joint???

I'd suggest that you reheat all solder conncetions that were involved in all mods since the machine last sounded nice. Sometimes even "perfect looking" solder joints are bad beneath their smooth surface. I clean component leads with emery cloth, use good (Cardas eutectic) solder and a stand-mounted illuminated magnifying glass when I solder, and I still get the occasional crappy-sounding joint.

I suppose there is the faint possibility that the particular Auricaps you put in are bad... you could remove them both, confirm good sound, then add them back one at a time.... just a thought.

I have used Pro Gold widely for years and never heard any bad effects.

Good luck,
Peter
