Re: NAD 302 AMP - Hacks,Tips,Please>>>

A magnetic earpiece(like hearing aid)could help tracing the signal path.Connect the gnd to gnd and search with the tip of the jack plug,a crocodile clip at either end of a length of wire would help with gnd, connect one end to the jack barrel the other to a gnd reference point(outer shell of the phono socket on the tape input for example.I had a 3020a,Nad,s best little entry level amp.I traced all the PCB tracks for the spakers and cut the tracks and reconnected using speaker wire. You get more current to the speaker sockets that way.Have you changed the Electrolytics(4 x 2200uf)?try 4 x 4700uf.Whilst your at it,trace the PSU track from the power supply as far as you can to the main Power Transistors.Basicaly The D.C.goes straight to one of the transistor pins.Using heavy duty cable(solid core)Will provide more juice to the transistor(Your cooker might run off of a 15amp wire, although it will get warm, 30amps is better)Usualy the wider PCB tracks carry the power around the circuit.Cut the track with a sharp knife and then solder from, say electrolytic to the transistor, your wire( A to B or point to point).Take the speaker tracks straight from other side of transistor straight to the socket,(unless you use headphones)its just as important.I can't remember if it had a mute circuit, similar to a relay,if it has do youreself a favour,DON'T BY-PASS IT,best be safe, wire either side of it.Get some nice cable, speaker cable is good,OFC,you only need a couple of metres if that.
Basicaly, use a multimeter, have some patience,do one thing at a time and in-between have a coffee and a fag. Then check, then check again and move on.Before you fire her up,check your soldering, you don't want to solder two close pins together that should be seperate, this could spell disaster.
If at first she sounds lifeless, don't be miffed, she's probably had loads of distortion removed, you'll probably be able to crank her volume right up without your cones buzzing.Listen closely.
