Hi Highendman; The 1500 grit is something I reserve for leads that are oxidized. New parts usually don't need such measures.
If the parts you're using are all new, top quality components, extra cleaning (aside from gummies on the ends from the paper bandoliers) shouldn't be too much of an issue IME. When I posted, I was thinking about a lot of the parts and wire reels in my bins - some are 30 or more years old and some have oxidized leads. Surplus and bargain parts can be pretty bad in this regard!
As far as listening goes, my opinion (and it's only that!) is that if you've got a good mechanical join between clean parts and the solder flows properly then there won't be any differences. Flame suit on. However, if you've got some older parts (with honest to gosh oxidation on the leads!) then you're asking for a cold join. If it looks like the solder didn't "flow" right at the join, then it's time to get out the solder wick....
Sorry, I didn't pick up on the part where you washed with deoxit after the flitz. That should clean up any residue that's left over.
All opinions are just my 2 pence, natuerlich!
Good luck and all the best,
Morse
