Sort of an obvious question, but if the pot is a higher resistance value, it will have higher noise.If they are the same, you could try a quick and dirty shield test by wrapping the pot and associated cabling in foil. Make sure you ground the foil, but don't let it touch the rest of the pot wiring connections. This is certainly not a long term solution, but will at least tell you if the noise is being picked up externally...
