I use a 120VAC time delay relay. A 100 ohm 50 watt power resistor mounted on a standoff is in series with the incoming AC to the primary winding. The relay's amount of time delay is set by a small external resistor. As the relay "times out" it bypasses the series resistor. For my solid state amps with lots of capacitance in power supplies I find that a delay of 8 seconds with the 100 ohm resistor works out to be about correct.I greatly recommend this approach. The 120VAC relay means no power supply to build for the relay. Soft starts help prolong the life of components.
