Yeah Dave - bass resolution and extension are good. But magnitude is also extremely important. I agree that tight, fast, tonally accurate, and clear (not wooly) bass is key. But it's still a major concession to lose magnitude at lower frequencies. Who cares if you've got bass extension down to 30 Hz if it's -25 dB down? It's barely perceptible and probably masked when there's all manner of other sounds overlaid at 0 dB down to -3 dB. My point is that bass accuracy does not require bass lightness.I use test tones and a tripod-mounted Radio Shack sound pressure level meter to measure my bass response in-room at my listening position. I haven't done an AB comparison with cable lifters yet but I already know my A-weighted bass response is over -10 dBA to -15 dBA down compared to 1k, 5k, and 10k test tones calibrated at 90 dBA.
Broadband gain flatness (equal magnitude across entire frequency range) is what I'm targeting. Does anybody have any cable lifter set-up tricks to improve bass response?
