I understand your questions. I can neither confirm or deny your allegations. ;-). However, I found ALON in an Air Force Engineering mag. I checked it out, and it is as close to transparent aluminum as anyone would hope to get. This material, ALON was a military secret until recently. Now it is declassified. Think about Bybee's stuff in much the same way.
Or just think of Jack Bybee as a harmless retired physicist who putters around in his garage.
