Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I've got an almost 30 year old HK A-402 integrated that works and sounds just fine, but being 30 years old, I can't help but wonder if it would be beneficial to replace some parts.Specifically, I understand that the power filter capacitors are highly recommended for vintage items.
So this is a dual-mono 40w amp - so it has 4x 50v 4700uF Elna capacitors. The rating seems quite generous for this wattage of amp - and as I understand, Elna is a good brand (though these aren't marked Cerafine).
Would it be worth it to replace these with something newer, without going all out - say some Nichicion KG Gold caps? They don't appear to be leaking at all or anything... I just understand that the performance of these high uF caps degrades noticeably over time. Please correct me if I'm wrong, however.
Thanks for any input you might have.
