Re: Can I use tiles as Isolation platforms??

I am currently using regular porcelain tiles as temporary shelves on my component rack while I construct symposium clones (sort of). Cannot say that these act as isolation, more as coupling, but they don't sound bad. Thicker natural stone, like travertine or granite or marble will act differently.

Also, I use regular unglazed and low fired saltillo tiles as the top plates for my speaker stands. These work very well in this application. Saltillos are a thick, crude tile with a lower ringing tone than hard fired ceramics or some natural stone. I use mine with dead ball suspension below them for truer isolation, put the speakers up on the saltillos on wooden dowel buttons for coupling to them.

YMMV. YOu gotta try it to know how it works with EACH component in your environment, which may vary significantly....
