Yes, there are differances. Just make sure the conductors are the same gauge as the 1585a, solid core and teflon insulated. Belden makes a few Cat5 cables that meet this criteria. I'm not sure about the product number you mention, but a check at the Belden website should let you know for sure. Hope this helps. BTW, meci.com sells some Belden Cat5 like I mention for $.07 a foot
