that for a given wattage, only half the amount of current is needed at 240V. Wire size, breaker size, etc., can all be downsized correspondingly.I suppose the downside is that at 240V there is greater risk of electrocution than at 120V. I've survived quite a few pokes at 120V, but I'm not sure what the outcome might have been at 240V.
