that for a given wattage, only half the amount of current is needed at 240V. Wire size, breaker size, etc., can all be downsized correspondingly.

I suppose the downside is that at 240V there is greater risk of electrocution than at 120V. I've survived quite a few pokes at 120V, but I'm not sure what the outcome might have been at 240V.
