They have to be really close to the pins so that the loop around the pins is as short as possible (only a few mm total of lead).I've never really had trouble with undamped (free-running) oscillations such as white noise. Maybe just lucky!
I felt the RCD-855 was a little shrill in the extreme HF, which in the past is something I've found can be caused by the standard BGs. Not saying that they are responsible for it in this player. Elna Silmic are warmer but you can't get them any more.
Personally I think I'd have the KZ de-coupling the op-amps, but as for coupling the output I don't know which would be better. You can always put the old ones back.
If you're happy with the tonal balance then maybe you should leave the BGs in!
