F.Y.I. ALL caps act as a dead short until they are 66% charged. The larger the filter bank the longer this huge current pull lasts (per Ohm's Law a dead short will attempt to pull as many amps as there are volts being applied). This is the best argument for a 'soft start' circuit in amplifiers, etc. with large filter banks. A simple soft start can be made with a DPDT delay relay and a current limiting power R so that the R is in circuit ahead of the rectifiers for several seconds and then the relay cycles bypassing the R, or a standard DPDT relay and R with the relay controlled by a simple 555 timer circuit. It helps keep the smoke in the parts. I've found that when you let the smoke out of a part it don't work no more.Happy Listening !
