I assume you will be using an external DAC with either one. The Pioneer will be much more user friendly. With the proper tweaking, I think the NEC has the potential for better sound quality, due to it's rugged, low jitter laser system. (Open it up and check it out-it's mounted in an aluminum casting, not plastic.)
