I think that there are two ways to reduce RF interference: reflect or absorb. If you build a shield-box you are reflecting, I believe that your present plan will function fine, although copper is not a better shield than aluminum. The best way to find out is to build and test of course.There is a product used by airport building contractors that absorbs RF. I believe it is a woven batting of graphite. The audio community should have picked up on it a long time ago, because it is engineered to lower RF in the tower, where stray energy could cause more damage than an op-amp in a hifi component. It is probably cheap too, when used in small amounts.
