The previous advice about AVA is sound. I own and use an AVA FET-Valve preamp (not avail for DIY) which I enjoy highly. Having said that, you should check out the Electronic Tonalities "Foreplay". Starting at $99 for a minimal kit, you will be able to build an upgradeable high performance line stage. E/T is an AA sponsor; the links are near the bottom of the AA home page.Either of the E/T or the AVA units will serve you well. BTW, if you decide on an AVA kit, spend the extra money for the Super PAS 4i tube/SS hybrid. It has lower distortion, better bass, and superior drive capability.
