Re: The Transcendent OTL Partial Kit

205.175.225.22

While I have not built one of the partial kits, I have built the monoblocks from "scratch."

>>How difficult were they and what is your opinion of the finished amp?<<

The partial kit takes out most of the "bitch" work associated with building a box: punching, drilling, painting etc. Having the transformer included and mounted is pretty nice as well. I don't think a how-to-assemble guide or schematic is included (I could be wrong). Getting ahold of the parts that are not included isn't a difficult task. There are a lot of parts and you are going to have to figure how to lay them out in the chassis (the tube sockets are already taken care of). I'd say that if you've built a few kits already and you know how to read a schematic, then you'd be able to assemble the partial kit amp without any problems.

As for the sound quality of the finished amp: superb. Very high resolution w/o any fatigue. Deep, tight bass. Midrange realism that only a tube can provide and treble that's clean and extended. It seems as if there are no colorations/graininess whatsoever.
